The Best Of 2013..!! (The Last Post Of 2013)

So in few hours, this year is gonna end & i hope, that for everyone this year was full of joy & hope, 2014 is even better for them. Even, for movies this year was big in someways. Hollywood dominated the the year 2013 with big releases. While bollywood, made money but their was no story in these movies, only some of them made it to good movies Bollywood made. Here is my list of Great Movies of 2013 -

1. Django Unchained

Some would be thinking that it released in 2012, but i would like to remind you that in India it released in March 2013. As, i only saw Reservoir Dogs of Quentin Tarantino. I will not lie that i only went to see this as it was nominated in Oscars. So, i went to see it & i was totally blown after seeing it. Tremendous acting, Superb Dialogues, Catchy Background Music & Tarantino's Classic Direction, made this movie a worth watch even, when it was close to 3 hours. Th film's plot revolves around slaves, slave trading, mandingo wrestling. The acting, well if you have perfect actors like Jamie Foxx who plays the lead role of "Django", Christopher Waltz as "Dr. King Schultz", Django's aid & a bounty hunter, Leonardo DiCaprio as "Calvin Candie", a mandingo fighter enthusiast & a cruel plantation owner. This is the jouney of Django who goes around with Schultz to bring back his wife back from cruel Calvin Candie. This movie has some of the best action moments in cinematic history, with great story & Tarantino's superb & stylish story telling about "Revenge". Christopher Waltz won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role.

My Rating - ****

2. Gravity

The director of the movie, Alfonso Cuaron, his creativity & masterful directing takes this movie into a whole new level as what was needed in this movie as to show that you are shooting in space with such beautiful, visually stunning pictures on screen, his creativity in the way he uses the silence of the space to build more tension in the mids of the viewers. Like, in a scene where the space debris demolishes a space shuttle, you expect to get a boom when it hits it, but what you get is stunned silence & it happens you get more tensed & on your edge of the seat. It takes the fear factor to a whole new level. The director has used a very imaginative technology to make the thriller & suspense in this movie to the highest level. As i said, it has the most Stunning sci-fi moments you would have seen in a long time. But, that doesn't mean, it's only about space, it's all about the emotions of a human. the bond shared by two astronauts talking on their radios. Alfonso's brilliance in capturing the emotions in their voices & on face creates an impact. The movie is not high about the acting honours, but Bullock & Clooney, nailed their performances..!! "Gravity" is a movie that when you see, it reminds you what the magic of the movies is all about. It makes you fall in love with cinema again..!!

My Rating - *****

3. Captain Phillips

As it is a story of Phillip's ordeal, it is also battle between the fully equipped NAVY seals & four skinny Somali pirates with guns. The situation makes you feel bad for the Somali pirates. Director, Paul Greengrass has nailed it once again after making United 93 in air this time, he takes the route of Water. He has a habit of keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats with real drama captured in real time. With this one he has another winner up his sleeves. The movie is based on a true story when "Captain Phillips" was captured by Somali pirates in 2009. The emotion was needed to be there & it was all there. "Tom Hanks", it's just so so difficult to say about a man like him, he has done it all, won Oscars, makes us smile everything. The last scene, where he is crying & shocked after the events that has happened to & around him, was a much needed one as it adds a human perspective to the events that has happened which has left him traumatized. This One Is Not To Be Missded..!! For its story, emotions & TOM HANKS..!! & Oh yeah, in the last scene, please take some tissues with you, because you will cry for sure..!! I did..!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED..!!

My Rating - ****&1/2

4. The Place Beyond The Pines

Well, I really didn't know about this movie at all. A friend of mine said that you should see this. So, i downloaded it. And, what i see is then a total superb journey of crime & drama, i've seen in recent times. The cast included all the actors who are superbly talented & have proved their mantle in Hollywood, Ryan Gosling as "Luke Glanton", Bradley Cooper as "Avery Cross" & Eva Mendes as "Romina". The movie is considered to be the one of the most awesomest movies of 2013 so far by every corner of this world. And, yes, it is the most promising movie of this year, with people having no expectations, what they got was like a "treasure" for them.

My Rating - ****

5. Prisoners

The movie is directed by Dennis Villeneuve & seriously i would like to meet him & say "what a superb director you are". The story of the movie is really deep & he needed to find the way to make it look comprehensive on the screen & he has done full justice to it. Everything, the emotion that was need by parents, the detective, everyone was bang on target. The misery, the parents feel, you become a part of it. Screenplay is just phenomenal. Hugh Jackman, playing a father, is one of the best roles he has done so far, strong, emotional, drooling sometime, in the scenes where he done everything that can be done to Alex, he looks vicious but miserable & mind you, when he cries, you'll cry for sure, too. I felt that. Jake Gyllenhaal as Detective Loki, does everything he can do, he is strong, ready to do anything. I think, its one of those movies, where you cannot tell, which lead actor was the best as both were good. As a whole, "Prisoners" is the movie that you would want to see for its content, acting & emotions. you would not get better dramatic situations which looks real on screen. I don't any doubt that, it is the best mvoie i've seen this year. It got what was expected from me, A standing ovation, from me.

My Rating - ****

6. RUSH

You will witness the real lives of the F1 drivers, on & off track. The story-telling of this movie gets to the depth to the characters, which leave you emotionally & mentally glued to them. You will feel their fears & vulnerabilty. The most awesomest thing in this movie is it's cinematography, which takes the movie to an awesome new-level, be it scene where you see wheel to wheel, racing in rain & even the car crashes, they just look WOW..!! The persformances of bothe main lead, is just like, if you haven't seen them in real life, you'll say, that they are the real Hunt & Lauda. The movie "RUSH" starts from the pole position, maintains the momentum & make to the chequered flag with a podium finish. Lond after, the movie is over, you don't think about death, rivalry. You just think about 2 champions, who didn't race for a living but, they lived because they loved the racing. The most thrilling ride, i've ever seen..!!

My Rating - ****&1/2

7. Oblivion

Some would challenge this choice of mine, but, according to me this movie was twice better than Iron Man 3. The film revolves around the lives of Jack Harper played by Tom Cruise & Victoria Olsen played by Andrea Riseborough as both overlook drones & all the machines, on the earth in the year 2077. The earth has been destroyed, what remains is in-habitable, who are still fighting with some Scavengers who are still on the earth & making the things worse. But, Jack & Victoria tend to believe that they are the only 2 present on earth but gets shocked when Jack sees that there are more than 500 also present who dress as scavengers & tend to gather things which they need. The journey of Jack, starts from here, to know the truth. The film gathered interests from the audiences with its superb visuals & effects, it was absolutely a visual treat watch this movie by all aspects. Superb Acting by all the cast members, Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko & Morgan Freeman. With Awesome Twists waiting for you in the 2nd half of the movie, You're in for treat.

8. Man Of Steel

With superb & mind-blowing effects. The best action scenes i've ever seen..Great Fighting Scenes in mid-air with punches over & over again.. Best Fight Scenes i've seen after such a long time. Awesome performances. Henry Cavill as Superman. looks like a superman in real too with great acting, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, looks grear. Russell Crowe as Jor-El, is superb. Hans Zimmer, does it again with His backgroud scores.. Zack snyder, David Goyer & Chirstopher Nolan, The Deadly Trio, does a magical work in this movie.

My Rating - ***&1/2

9. The Conjuring

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Ed and Lorraine Warren who were American paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Their reports inspired the Amityville Horror. The Warrens come to the assistance of the Perron family (Ron Livingston & Lili Taylor), who are experiencing increasingly disturbing events in their farmhouse in Harrisville,Rhode Island in 1971. The movie has all the freaking that you would love to see, but not experience it in real & it gets more intense when you get ti know that it is a real story. Superb Acting, Story-line, Mind-blowing background score & the whole movie was outstanding & will spook your guts out. The film went on to take $41.5 million during its opening weekend, breaking The Purge's previous record as the biggest opening for an original R-rated horror film. While horror films usually drop at least 50 percent over their second weekend, The Conjuring only dropped 47 percent to $22.2 million.

My Rating - ****

10. Frozen

Frozen works on essentially every level. In traditionally every fairytale, everything is black & white, but in this everything is grey. When you see the movie, you'll not see Elda as a evil-queen, you will see her as a young girl who cannot control her powers. The "Animation" work in this is splendid, beautiful, mind-blowing, i can say every good word for this movie. Frozen is definitely made for kids, which comes with good strong messages & they have their effects on the minds of the kids. But, the adults & young children will equally enjoy the movie as the kids will. This is not typical good vs evil movie, but it reflects the real complications of life. To last year's "Brave", both the movies are based on girl power, but, "Frozen" is much much more enjoyable than Brave. The humour is superb & is genuine & you will laugh to you extent & it is mostly provided by the character you'll love the most, i.e., "Snowman", who is waiting for the summer, but, doesn't know the consequences he have to bear. This is by all means a great animated movie. By far, a flawless animated movie after "The Lion King", you'll feel this when you will see "Frozen". Now, I don't know, what a perfect movie is, as it's like difficult to please everyone, but "Frozen" is really close to be called "Perfect"..!!

Movie Review - "Frozen" - A Visually Flawless Animated Movie

Last year, "Brave" won the Oscar for the Best Animated Movie Of 2012, that was Disney & Pixar's production. But, this year they have come back with a stronger outcome, i.e., "Frozen". The movie is a throwback to the Disney's classic adventures from pre-PIXAR times, but the real thing is it still looks modern as the film & it's writing is so fresh. The movie is based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, "The Snow Queen".

The movie tells the story of 2 princess sisters Elsa voiced by "Idina Menzel" & Anna voiced by "Kristen Bell" who lives in a gorgeous kingdom of Arendelle. Born with the power to turn everything into ice, Elsa is kept way from her sister & she never goes out as this secret should be hidden from the world. But, when they grow up & both of them waiting for the big announcement, "Elda" is named & crowned the queen of Arendelle, she is happy, but moreover her sister is the most happiest person after hearing this & everybody forgots what power Elda possess, even, Elda forgets it & by Mistake, that's the important part, by MISTAKE, she freezes her village & she feels wicked & low, resulting in to banish herself from the village & leading an isolated life away from everybody. Her sister, Anna, feels determined to find her sister "Elda", she courageously sets off to the mountains & she is not alone. Yess, she has company with her, a rugged local guy voiced by "Jonathan Groff" & a goofy & awesome Snowman, voiced by "Josh Gad". But, Anna only has one thing on her mind, which is "Her Sister's Safety".

GO WATCH IT..!! GET, FROZEN, IN THIS FUN RIDE..!!  :D

Cast - Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad

Director - Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee

My Rating- ****

A Superb, flawless animated movie, in a long-long time.
