There are so many great bollywood movies.From Anand to Chupke Chupke, Pyaasa to Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. Here are my picks of 10 Classic Bollywood Movies which i've seen & all should see. Here goes the list:


1. Sholay

        Sholay is a 1975 bollywood action movie directed by Ramesh Sippy. The movie revolves around 2 criminals, Jai & Veeru, played by Amitabh Bacchan (JAI) & Dharmendra (VEERU), hired by a retired police officer to capture the dacoit Gabbar Singh played by Amjad Khan. Th film also stars Hema Malini & Jaya Bhaduri as Veeru & Jai's love interests. Sholay is considered a classic & one of the best Indian movies. It was ranked 1st in British Film Institute's 2002 poll of "Top 10 Indian Films" of all time. Amjad Khan portraying the role of Gabbar Singh, is considered to be the one of the greatest portrayal of a villain in Indian Cinema. This movie is a must-watch.


2. Anand

         Anand is a 1971 Hindi Drama Film written & direted by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The cast included big names like Rajesh Khanna & Amitabh Bacchan in lead roles. Rajesh Khanna played the main lead role. It is widely considered as one of the best hindi movies of Hindi Film industry, a masterpiece by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The role of Anand is regarded as Rajesh Khanna's best role.  The film was a major hit and made newcomer Amitabh Bachchan a noticeable name. Indiatimes Movies ranks the movie amongst the "Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films". The phrase "Babu Moshaye" became very popular after this movie. The movie will shake you to your core with its subject & over the top acting.


3. Chupke Chupke

         Chupke Chupke is a 1975 hindi comedy film starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bacchan, Sharmila Tagore, Om Prakash, Asrani & Jaya Bhaduri in lead roles. The movie revolves around a Botany professor Parimal Tripath played by Dharmendra who falss in love with Sulekha Chaturvedi played by Sharmila Tagore. Parimal gets frustrated by Sulekha's references of her Brother-In-Law, Haripadd Bhaiyaa played by Om Prakash & decides to prove that he is no way a lesser mortal & decides to prank with him. Movie's comic repesentation & performances by each & every actor makes you crack up to the core. The movie is must see for a movie goer.


4. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

         Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron is a 1983 Comedy/Drama hindi film starring Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapoor, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik & Bhakti Barve. It is a dark satire on the rampant corruption in Indian politics, bureaucracy, news media and business directed by Kundan Shah. Kundan Shah won the 1984 Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director for his work. 'Indiatimes Movies' ranks the film amongst the 'Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films'. The movie's subject was well recieved by critics & audiences. The black comedy in this movie makes you laugh out loud  during the whole movie. Last, 15 minutes of the movie, "The Mahabharata Scene" is considered to be the Greatest Comedy Scenes Of All Time. The movie is a treat to watch. My personal Favourite.


5. Guide

         Guide is a 1965 Hindi film starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. It was directed by Vijay Anand, who also contributed to the screenplay. The film is based on the critically acclaimed novel, The Guide, by R. K. Narayan, and is widely considered to be one of the masterpieces of the Indian film industry. The movie proved memorable for its award-winning performances by the lead actors and memorable music by S. D. Burman. Time Magazine listed it at Number Four on its list of Best Bollywood Classics. The film's music is still considered to be one of the greatest music to be created in Hindi film Indusrty. The depiction of the love stoty & human conditions is superbly portrayed in this movie. Racommended by all means.


6. Golmaal

       Golmaal  is a 1979 Bollywood comedy movie directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.  Along with getting high accolades and praise from several critics, the film became a "Blockbuster" at the box office and gained huge popularity among the masses. Gol Maal, becoming a "Mega Hit" reached the top spot in 1979 in terms of box office collections. The film till now remains as popular and favorite among the audiences as it used to be and is regarded as one of the finest comedy films of Indian Cinema. The Film's cast includes big names like Amol Palekar & Utpall Dutt, who are considered to be the finest actors in Indian Film Industry. The story revolves around Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma played by Amol Palekar who tries to get traditional & gets a fake moustache to get a job but difficulties come when his Boss, Bhavani shankar, played by Utpall Dutt sees him at a Hockey Match without his moustache & then the story moves forward with all the complexity. The movie is funny from its first scene to the very end scene. Highly Recommended.


7. Angoor

        Angoor is a 1982 Bollywood Hindi comedy film. It is based on Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors and is still considered one of Bollywood's best comedies. The reason for grading this movie as the 'best comedy film' of the bollywood is that this is the only film where situation-based comedy is seen. All characters are innocent and destiny plays the main role in bring all characters at one place. The film stars Sanjeev Kumar & Deven Verma, both playing Double roles with same names Ashok & Bahadur. The confusion occurs when, all the the people who know them try to get mixed with the identities of Ashok & Bahadur they know. In this confusion, the humour comes out in is real form & is situation based. the films cracks you with laughter all the time till the end with its catchy lines & great comic timing. Movie is considered to be the "Best Comedy Till Date", so i think it sums up everything.


8. Chashme Buddoor

         Chashme Buddoor is a 1981 romantic comedy-buddy film starring Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani and Saeed Jaffrey.  The film is directed by Sai Paranjpye. The film is about three students; Siddharth played by Farooq Shaikh, Omi played by Rakesh Bedi and Jai played by Ravi Baswani at Delhi University, who don't go home during summer vacation and how a girl Neha played by Deepti Naval comes in their life. The film was a silver jubilee hit. The movie is a must watch.


9. Waqt

          Waqt is a 1965 Indian film directed by Yash Chopra. It made it onto the BFI's long list of films in consideration for their top ten of Indian films award. It was produced by B.R. Chopra and starred an ensemble cast including Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana, Balraj Sahni, Madan Puri, Sharmila Tagore. It pioneered the concept of films with multiple stars, starting a trend followed by other films. The film took the top spot at the box office in 1965. Waqt also showcases some of the top dialogues in the history of Bollywood movies. Raaj Kumar's Jinke apne ghar sheeshay ke hon, woh dusron par pathar nahi phenka karte and Jani, Yeh bachon ke khelne ki cheez nahi, haath kat jaye toh khoon nikal aata hai  are remembered even today. The movie is a marvel in its genre.


10. Chameli Ki Shaadi

         Chameli Ki Shaadi is a 1986 Bollywood comedy film directed by Basu Chatterjee starring Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh. The original Story is from the novel of Om Prakash Sharma. The film was declared an all-time blockbuster. The film stars Anil Kapoor, Amrita Singh, Pankaj Kapoor, Amjad Khan, Annu Kappoor. Superbly written, Superbly Acted & Superb comic dialogues makes it a worth watch.

     Based on the novel of the same name by Michael Blake, "Dances With The Wolves" follows a Civil War soldier who lives a Native American tribe in the 1800s.With Kevin Costner as The Director, the movie had high production values with the budget of 15 million US$.The movie went on to win 7 Academy awards including Academy Award For Best Picture, Kevin Costner also won the Golden Globe For Best Direction & also Best Movie Drama.The movie went on to be very successful Worldwide.It was the first Western Movie to win Best Film Academy Award after 1931's Cimarron.

      Tom Hanks won his 2nd Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Forrestan, unusual, yet cheerful man who found himself at the center of many notable world events.Based on the novel the same name by Winston Groom.It was released in 1994, & was mominated for 13 Academy Awards & Won 6 of them, including Best Picture.This was the first major success for Paramount Pictures earning over 600+ million US$ in its theatrical run.The scene of Gump running across the country is often referred to when real-life people attempt the feat. In 2011, the Library of Congress selected Forrest Gump for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

         Dinosaurs come to life in “Jurassic Park” based on the novel of the same name written by Michael Crichton.Directed by Steven Spielberg, he took the rights of this novel ever before it was published.In this 1993 blockbuster which tells a corporation that brings Dinosaurs back to life for a theme park in Central American Island.When the dinosaurs take over, chaos reigns for those who get trapped on the island. Filming took place in California and Hawaii. The dinosaurs were created through groundbreaking computer generated imagery by Industrial Light & Magic in conjuction to life-sized animatronic dinos built by Stan Winston 's team. Following a 3D re-release to celebrate the film's 20th anniversary on April 5, 2013, Jurassic Park has grossed over $1 billion at the box office making it the 17th film to gross over $1 billion and currently ranks as the seventeenth highest grossing film worldwide, and 16th-highest-grossing film in North America, unadjusted for inflation. It is the highest-grossing film released by Universal and directed by Spielberg. 10. GoodFellas

     Goodfellas  is a 1990 American crime film directed by Martin Scorsese. It is a film adaptation of the 1986 non-fiction book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scorsese. The film follows the rise and fall of Lucchese crime family associate Henry Hill and his friends over a period from 1955 to 1980. Goodfellas performed well at the box office, grossing $46.8 million domestically, well above its $25 million budget. It also received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won one for Pesci in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category. Scorsese's film won five awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, including Best Film, and Best Director. The film was named Best Film of the year by various film critics groups. Goodfellas is often considered one of the greatest films ever, both in the crime genre and in general, and was deemed "culturally significant" and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress.       The Exorcist  is a 1973 American horror film directed by William Friedkin, adapted by William Peter Blatty from his 1971 novel of the same name. The book, inspired by the 1949 exorcism case of Roland Doe, deals with the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl and her mother's desperate attempts to win back her child through an exorcism conducted by two priests. The Exorcist was released theatrically in the United States by Warner Bros. on December 26, 1973. The film earned 10 Academy Award nominations, winning two (Best Sound Mixing and Best Adapted Screenplay), and losing Best Picture to The Sting. It became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, grossing over $441 million worldwide. It is also the first horror film to be nominated for Best Picture.      Based on Mario Puzo’s novel of the same name  The Godfather, is known to be one of the greatest movies in world cinema & is 2^nd in the greatest movies ever made in American cinema behind Citizen Kane.The movie was highest grossing movie for a very long time.The film cast had names like Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton etc.Marlon Brando played the role of Vito Corleone, the don, the boss of the Corleone family. Al Pacino as Micheal Corleone, the youngest son of Vito Corleone.The Godfather was a blockbuster, it became the highest grossing movie till “Jaws” came in 1975.Marlon Brando, delieved a masterpiece performance as is considered to be one of the greatest actors in cinema history.His role, Vito Corleone garnered him praises from every corner of the world, which made him won the Academy award for Best Actor & the movie also won the Academy Award for Best Film.The movie is considered to be a benchmark in the Mafia genre of the movies.According to critics & audiences, The Godfather is unquestionably the best Mafia movie ever to be made & no movie after that has come to come near to this movie.

Top 5 Movies I've Seen

The fever of blogging has got onto me, as this is my 2nd blog..!!This blog is all dedicated to the entertainment side, movies specifically..But, in coming days you can read all sorts of stories related to entertainment side.So, to start this journey let me tell you the 5 movies that i've seen & loved the most..The list is not from ascending or descending order these are the movies i love the most & are equally good.I hope you all like my list.Here it goes:

1. The Dark Knight Trilogy
    Well any movie lover would have this trilogy as the most ultimate trilogy in the cinema history.Started in 2005 with "Batman Begins", Christopher Nolan made a commitment to revive the magic of BATMAN on the big screen as it was destroyed by Joel Schumacher & destroyed so badly that no director & big studio would go even near reviving it.With Christopher Nolan, having full faith on him & his team made this movie with the help of Warner Bros. & the movie revived the magic of the caped crusader on the big screen, again.With strong story, brilliant acting by "Christian Bale" as BATMAN & over the top backgroud score it made a huge impact on the audiences & they were waiting for the next movie.In 2008,Christopher Nolan & Warner Bros came again with the sequel titled "The Dark Knight", the movie was in focus as audiences believe taking Heath Ledger as Joker in the movie is a mistake.But, all these allegations got deeply buried in the groud.The movie went on to breaking all the records one can even remember.Heath Ledger delievered the performance of his career & all believed only & only Ledger could have portrayed The Joker, like this.The movie grossed over 1 billion at the worldwide box-office & is named as the "Best Superhero Movie Ever Made".With this, Nolan announced that the next movie would be the last movie in this franchise.After, 4 years, in 2012, the epic finale of this movie released named.. "The Dark Knight Rises" & yet Nolan & company, delievered the finest of the movies ever can be made, with menacing Tom Hardy as Bane, Joseph Gorden Levitt as Blake/Robin, Anne Hathway as Cat-Woman.The movie was really an epic finale to an epic trilogy.By far, for me, the best trilogy i've evern seen.



2. The Silence Of The Lambs
    The movie's is as interesting as the movie, itself.Based on the novel of the same name had 2 big names in it, Sir Anthony Hopkins & Jodie Foster.The movie starts with a young gir Clarice Starling played by Jodie Foster trying to get into the FBI & she is being approached to deal with a serial killer, oh sorry, a psycho serial killer who is extraordinarily smart Dr.Hannibal Lecter played by Sir Anthony Hopkins & also a psycho killer who wants to become transgender, Buffalo Bill played by Ted Levine.With its interesting names & superb screenplay the movie is a must watch for every movie goer.The movie has some scintillating moments that are known to be the best moments in the cinematic history.Sir Anthony Hopkins, delievered a marvel of a performance as Dr.Hannibal Lecter, with a role only comprising of 16 minutes of screen presence, this role got him an Academy Award for Best Actor, Jodie Foster winning Best Actess Academy Award.In short, the movie is a masterpiece & should be watched by everyone..!!



3.The Hangover Part 1
    With the above 2 films with serious scripts & ideology.This movie is a completely opposite to them.Many road trip movies came & made this genre a boring one with all the the same things.Then came, “The Hangover” in 2009, nobody expected anything from this movie as the star cast was not so popular.Names like, Bradley Cooper, Zack Galifianakis, Ed Helms & Justin Bartha with a director that no one knew “Todd Phillips”.But, as the movie opened in theatres, it gained worldwide acclaim for everyone, the critics & the audiences.With great storyline, superb acting & great catchy lines & Zach Galifianakis’s over the top funny performance make this road trip a worth watch.The movie was one of the rare movies which saw, 100% occupency in theatres even in the 4^th & 5^th week of the movie.The film went on to be a great succes at Worldwide box office, turning this movie into a trilogy with movies The Hangover Part 2 & Part 3.



4.Shutter Island
    Shutter Island is psychological thriller movie directed by Martin Scorsese & is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane of the same name.With, Leonardo Di Caprio in the lead role playing Teddy Daniesl, Mark Ruffalo as Chuck Aule & Sir Ben Kingsley as Dr.John Cawley.The film starts with Di Caprio & Ruffalo as two U.S. Marshals travelling to Ashecliffe Hospital for criminally insane for the investigation of the disappearance of Rachel Solando.With all this investigation going through & Di caprio as Daniels fighting his own internal war.This movie needs to be watched carefully with a sense of calmnes just for this movie.It will make you sit to the edge of your seats till the very end.With superb screenplay, dialogues & acting by all the main leads makes this a worth watch & not just once, you can watch this as many times as you want.Movied gained a huge popularity among the critics & audiences, calling the movie a “gem”.

    The Godfather, is known to be one of the greatest movies in world cinema & is 2^nd in the greatest movies ever made in American cinema behind Citizen Kane.The movie was highest grossing movie for a very long time.The film cast had names like Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton etc.Marlon Brando played the role of Vito Corleone, the don, the boss of the Corleone family.
