Bollywood Classics..!!

There are so many great bollywood movies.From Anand to Chupke Chupke, Pyaasa to Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. Here are my picks of 10 Classic Bollywood Movies which i've seen & all should see. Here goes the list:


1. Sholay

        Sholay is a 1975 bollywood action movie directed by Ramesh Sippy. The movie revolves around 2 criminals, Jai & Veeru, played by Amitabh Bacchan (JAI) & Dharmendra (VEERU), hired by a retired police officer to capture the dacoit Gabbar Singh played by Amjad Khan. Th film also stars Hema Malini & Jaya Bhaduri as Veeru & Jai's love interests. Sholay is considered a classic & one of the best Indian movies. It was ranked 1st in British Film Institute's 2002 poll of "Top 10 Indian Films" of all time. Amjad Khan portraying the role of Gabbar Singh, is considered to be the one of the greatest portrayal of a villain in Indian Cinema. This movie is a must-watch.


2. Anand

         Anand is a 1971 Hindi Drama Film written & direted by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The cast included big names like Rajesh Khanna & Amitabh Bacchan in lead roles. Rajesh Khanna played the main lead role. It is widely considered as one of the best hindi movies of Hindi Film industry, a masterpiece by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The role of Anand is regarded as Rajesh Khanna's best role.  The film was a major hit and made newcomer Amitabh Bachchan a noticeable name. Indiatimes Movies ranks the movie amongst the "Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films". The phrase "Babu Moshaye" became very popular after this movie. The movie will shake you to your core with its subject & over the top acting.


3. Chupke Chupke

         Chupke Chupke is a 1975 hindi comedy film starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bacchan, Sharmila Tagore, Om Prakash, Asrani & Jaya Bhaduri in lead roles. The movie revolves around a Botany professor Parimal Tripath played by Dharmendra who falss in love with Sulekha Chaturvedi played by Sharmila Tagore. Parimal gets frustrated by Sulekha's references of her Brother-In-Law, Haripadd Bhaiyaa played by Om Prakash & decides to prove that he is no way a lesser mortal & decides to prank with him. Movie's comic repesentation & performances by each & every actor makes you crack up to the core. The movie is must see for a movie goer.


4. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

         Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron is a 1983 Comedy/Drama hindi film starring Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapoor, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik & Bhakti Barve. It is a dark satire on the rampant corruption in Indian politics, bureaucracy, news media and business directed by Kundan Shah. Kundan Shah won the 1984 Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director for his work. 'Indiatimes Movies' ranks the film amongst the 'Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films'. The movie's subject was well recieved by critics & audiences. The black comedy in this movie makes you laugh out loud  during the whole movie. Last, 15 minutes of the movie, "The Mahabharata Scene" is considered to be the Greatest Comedy Scenes Of All Time. The movie is a treat to watch. My personal Favourite.


5. Guide

         Guide is a 1965 Hindi film starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. It was directed by Vijay Anand, who also contributed to the screenplay. The film is based on the critically acclaimed novel, The Guide, by R. K. Narayan, and is widely considered to be one of the masterpieces of the Indian film industry. The movie proved memorable for its award-winning performances by the lead actors and memorable music by S. D. Burman. Time Magazine listed it at Number Four on its list of Best Bollywood Classics. The film's music is still considered to be one of the greatest music to be created in Hindi film Indusrty. The depiction of the love stoty & human conditions is superbly portrayed in this movie. Racommended by all means.


6. Golmaal

       Golmaal  is a 1979 Bollywood comedy movie directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.  Along with getting high accolades and praise from several critics, the film became a "Blockbuster" at the box office and gained huge popularity among the masses. Gol Maal, becoming a "Mega Hit" reached the top spot in 1979 in terms of box office collections. The film till now remains as popular and favorite among the audiences as it used to be and is regarded as one of the finest comedy films of Indian Cinema. The Film's cast includes big names like Amol Palekar & Utpall Dutt, who are considered to be the finest actors in Indian Film Industry. The story revolves around Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma played by Amol Palekar who tries to get traditional & gets a fake moustache to get a job but difficulties come when his Boss, Bhavani shankar, played by Utpall Dutt sees him at a Hockey Match without his moustache & then the story moves forward with all the complexity. The movie is funny from its first scene to the very end scene. Highly Recommended.


7. Angoor

        Angoor is a 1982 Bollywood Hindi comedy film. It is based on Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors and is still considered one of Bollywood's best comedies. The reason for grading this movie as the 'best comedy film' of the bollywood is that this is the only film where situation-based comedy is seen. All characters are innocent and destiny plays the main role in bring all characters at one place. The film stars Sanjeev Kumar & Deven Verma, both playing Double roles with same names Ashok & Bahadur. The confusion occurs when, all the the people who know them try to get mixed with the identities of Ashok & Bahadur they know. In this confusion, the humour comes out in is real form & is situation based. the films cracks you with laughter all the time till the end with its catchy lines & great comic timing. Movie is considered to be the "Best Comedy Till Date", so i think it sums up everything.


8. Chashme Buddoor

         Chashme Buddoor is a 1981 romantic comedy-buddy film starring Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani and Saeed Jaffrey.  The film is directed by Sai Paranjpye. The film is about three students; Siddharth played by Farooq Shaikh, Omi played by Rakesh Bedi and Jai played by Ravi Baswani at Delhi University, who don't go home during summer vacation and how a girl Neha played by Deepti Naval comes in their life. The film was a silver jubilee hit. The movie is a must watch.


9. Waqt

          Waqt is a 1965 Indian film directed by Yash Chopra. It made it onto the BFI's long list of films in consideration for their top ten of Indian films award. It was produced by B.R. Chopra and starred an ensemble cast including Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana, Balraj Sahni, Madan Puri, Sharmila Tagore. It pioneered the concept of films with multiple stars, starting a trend followed by other films. The film took the top spot at the box office in 1965. Waqt also showcases some of the top dialogues in the history of Bollywood movies. Raaj Kumar's Jinke apne ghar sheeshay ke hon, woh dusron par pathar nahi phenka karte and Jani, Yeh bachon ke khelne ki cheez nahi, haath kat jaye toh khoon nikal aata hai  are remembered even today. The movie is a marvel in its genre.


10. Chameli Ki Shaadi

         Chameli Ki Shaadi is a 1986 Bollywood comedy film directed by Basu Chatterjee starring Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh. The original Story is from the novel of Om Prakash Sharma. The film was declared an all-time blockbuster. The film stars Anil Kapoor, Amrita Singh, Pankaj Kapoor, Amjad Khan, Annu Kappoor. Superbly written, Superbly Acted & Superb comic dialogues makes it a worth watch.
