With 2013, Hollywood dominating the number of hits it has produced in India, the miseries of "Bollywood" has not yet finished. As, Besharam, bombed at the box office, the new hollywood release "Gravity" has taken the world by storm. Getting a universal acclaim. So, i thought why not watch this movie which is getting 5 on 5 stars in reviews, 8.7 on IMDB, 98% on Rotten Tomatoes & 96% in Metacritic. I can assure you, to get these types of reviews in sites like that is really tough.
So, The movies starts with a view of Earth from the space, in year 2014 where mission specialist & bio-medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone played Sandra Bullock is on her first space shuttle mission which is named "STS-157", accompanied by a veteran astronaut Matthew Kowalski, who is the leader of this expedition. They are trying to fix something that is occuring a problem in Hubble Space Telescope, they get to know that they have to abort the mission as a result from a Russian missile attack on their own satellite has created a storm of debris, which has caused a chain reaction of destruction in the space. Well, this looks spooky as you're the only 2 in the space & the destruction from space is coming on you. The destruction kills all the shuttle crew inside. They are left stranded in the space. Only both of them, in "Space" going round & round.
(The astronaut in the left played by Sandra Bullock, in a scene from the movie "Gravity")
What follows after that is little predictable as they find ways to survive the storm, which is confirmed to hit back again in some time. But, what "Gravity" does best is, it explores the "survival" genre in infinite space, where the only thing that connect human is transmitted as voices on Radio from Earth, but the human rescue looks impossible. But, when you feel the tension building up on the screen, You're the first one to say, "Please, Somebody Help Them".. Then you think, what i was thinking, its Space, not a street that a guy walking around would save them. The director of the movie, Alfonso Cuaron, his creativity & masterful directing takes this movie into a whole new level as what was needed in this movie as to show that you are shooting in space with such beautiful, visually stunning pictures on screen, his creativity in the way he uses the silence of the space to build more tension in the mids of the viewers. Like, in a scene where the space debris demolishes a space shuttle, you expect to get a boom when it hits it, but what you get is stunned silence & it happens you get more tensed & on your edge of the seat. It takes the fear factor to a whole new level.
The movie is released only in 3-D, not in 2-D. The filming of the movie in 3-D is more than a gimmick. It has some of the most astonishing moments of 3-D you would even see. The director has used a very imaginative technology to make the thriller & suspense in this movie to the highest level. As i said, it has the most Stunning sci-fi moments you would have seen in a long time. But, that doesn't mean, it's only about space, it's all about the emotions of a human. the bond shared by two astronauts talking on their radios. Alfonso's brilliance in capturing the emotions in their voices & on face creates an impact.
The movie is not high about the acting honours, but Bullock & Clooney, nailed their performances..!! "Gravity" is a movie that when you see, it reminds you what the magic of the movies is all about. It makes you fall in love with cinema again..!! GO WATCH IT, FEEL THIS EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY..!!
Cast - Sandra Bullock, George Clooney
Director - Alfonso Cuaron
My Rating - ***** (it deserves even more than that)
