Okayy, So i'm not that of a big fan of "Chetan Bhagat", but by seeing "3 Idiots" & "Kai Po Che", i felt that it would be a nice movie to watch. And, i went there with no expectations & what i got is "Nothing Special". To be honest, Chetan Bhagat, is a very lucky guy as everyone has their own love story but he is the one who not only gets to publish a love story but later on it's even made into a movie & make more money out of it & some-what entertainment. So, here i go with my review.
(Arjun Kapoor & Alia Bhatt in a scene from the movie)
Just like all the other love stories in India, both the boy & the girl are from 2 different regions. Ananya Swaminathan played by "Alia Bhatt" is Tamilian girl from Chennai & then their is Krish Malhotra played by "Arjun Kapoor" is a Punjabi boy from Delhi. Well, mind you, both Alia & Arjun look good on the screen. so, now they bump into each other in the canteen of IIM Ahmedabad. Where you see, Ananya fighting with cook of the canteen because she sees that the extra sambhar, mind you, extra sambhar is not upto the mark & she wants to have an extra Rasgulla, which not allowed. Well yess, even i would fight if the Sambhar is not upto the mark. Standing behind her in the line is Krish, who tells the cook to give the sweet from his share to him. After this event, we see Ananya just clinging onto Krish like a magnet. We see, that She has not other friends in the college & i seriously think, why! Ananya is very pretty & in real, Alia look really beautiful., so Krish soon confesses that, they cannot be just friends & he expects more from her. So she has an option of forgetting him or to start dating him & to no surprise she chooses the 2nd option.
But, the real fun starts when they introduce their parents. As by the promos you have seen, the Tamilian parents think that the Punjabi's are too loud & uncultured & Punjabi's don't like them for like a million reasons. As a punjabi, yess we are loud sometimes but i'm yet to meet a Punjabi Parent who uses a such in-sensitive comment to someone's face & say things like, "Tamilians Gore Bhi Nahi Hote Hain". Krish is a reserved type of guy, but there you see he has reason to it as he has seen a lot of domestic violence between his father Vikram Malhotra played by "Ronit Roy" & his mother Kavita Malhotra played by "Amrita Singh". Ananya & Krish, want to get married but their parents are not on the same page. Now, that's where i'll stop so that you get any spoilers.
The problem in this movie is that it is toooooooo long & moves with a slow pace. Very Long conversations make it even more boring. But, yeaa, there were some things that i enjoyed & i think you will also enjoy. Alia Bhatt, who plays a Tamilian girl looks so natural that you actually think that she is actually a Tamilian & has moved out of her comfort zone & is the most awesomest thing in the movie. Both the mothers, Amrita Singh & Revathy, are the two who adds fun to the movie, i should say the little fun the movie has. Arjun Kapoor, is flat out disappointed. As a lead actor, he doesn't look like a lead actor. The music of Shankar Ehsaan Loy is good & picks up the movie to a bit, but is dragged when ever long scenes come through.
In the end, "2 States" is a well-packaged product with good promos, posters & music. But, the film is disappointing. You can wait for the DVD to release.
