In 2011, Director James Wan, gave us a movie to which we all said that "He is the new Horror Master", the film was "Insidious", where he tells the story of "Josh" & "Renai" played by "Patrick Wilson" & "Rose Byrne" who are experiencing supernatural things, because of their son. To, get back their son back from the coma & get him back from the spirit world, his father goes into the spirit world & brings him back, but what we see in the end completely made our minds blown as the real "Josh" doesn't come back to the real world, it's a monster who has come back with him, with Josh trapped in the spirit world. We have waited for 2 years, to know what will happen to Josh & his family & finally, the wait is over. "Insidious:Chapter 2" has released in India & it does not disappoints.
( Patrick Wilson (Josh) in a scene from "Insidious:Chapter 2")
The story starts with a flashback, where we see young "Josh" having a sort of interview with young "Ellis" (the psychic, who sends JOSH to the spirit world in the 1st movie) as he is experiencing some weird things around the house & then, we come back to the present, Renai is being interrogated by the police on the killing of Ellis, which we saw in the last scene of 1st movie. But, when they thought everything is going good, they again start experiencing weird supernatural things. The first "Insidious" often felt like an affectionate tribute to "The Shining", with a gifted child able to communicate with the undead, "Chapter 2" continues the homage by having Patrick Wilson go full "Jack Torrance" on us & turning to someone dangerous. That plus the appearance of some very unwanted guests, like a bride covered in white who gives a good thrashing to Renai in the living room.
James Wan & Leigh Whannell once again has made a ripping good ghost story here. Where so many sequels seems like mere remakes of their predecessors, with bigger budgets & less imagination, "Insidious:Chapter 2" feels like a genuine continuation of characters we enjoyed getting to know the first time. The most stand-out character in this movie is "Patrick Wilson", he looks superb in his role, confused, helpless & relentlessly dangerous. "Wan's intelligent filmmaking and command of unsettling atmospherics continue to impress, and Whannell's script is committed to pushing the mythology forward, deftly moving back and forth through time and even literally revisiting the first film to provide a new perspective on a key event. "Chapter 2" won't make much sense to anyone who hasn't seen "Insidious," but that's the point. Instead of a typical disposable sequel, Wan and Whannell have created two films that could easily be united as a single, satisfying, work."
GO WATCH, IT..!! YOU'LL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED..!! PATRICK WILSON IS SPECIAL IN THIS MOVIE..!! :D
Cast - Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, Ty Simpsons, Steve Coulter, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson
Director - James Wan
My Rating - ***&1/2
