The Best Of 2013..!! (The Last Post Of 2013)

So in few hours, this year is gonna end & i hope, that for everyone this year was full of joy & hope, 2014 is even better for them. Even, for movies this year was big in someways. Hollywood dominated the the year 2013 with big releases. While bollywood, made money but their was no story in these movies, only some of them made it to good movies Bollywood made. Here is my list of Great Movies of 2013 -

1. Django Unchained

Some would be thinking that it released in 2012, but i would like to remind you that in India it released in March 2013. As, i only saw Reservoir Dogs of Quentin Tarantino. I will not lie that i only went to see this as it was nominated in Oscars. So, i went to see it & i was totally blown after seeing it. Tremendous acting, Superb Dialogues, Catchy Background Music & Tarantino's Classic Direction, made this movie a worth watch even, when it was close to 3 hours. Th film's plot revolves around slaves, slave trading, mandingo wrestling. The acting, well if you have perfect actors like Jamie Foxx who plays the lead role of "Django", Christopher Waltz as "Dr. King Schultz", Django's aid & a bounty hunter, Leonardo DiCaprio as "Calvin Candie", a mandingo fighter enthusiast & a cruel plantation owner. This is the jouney of Django who goes around with Schultz to bring back his wife back from cruel Calvin Candie. This movie has some of the best action moments in cinematic history, with great story & Tarantino's superb & stylish story telling about "Revenge". Christopher Waltz won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role.

My Rating - ****

2. Gravity

The director of the movie, Alfonso Cuaron, his creativity & masterful directing takes this movie into a whole new level as what was needed in this movie as to show that you are shooting in space with such beautiful, visually stunning pictures on screen, his creativity in the way he uses the silence of the space to build more tension in the mids of the viewers. Like, in a scene where the space debris demolishes a space shuttle, you expect to get a boom when it hits it, but what you get is stunned silence & it happens you get more tensed & on your edge of the seat. It takes the fear factor to a whole new level. The director has used a very imaginative technology to make the thriller & suspense in this movie to the highest level. As i said, it has the most Stunning sci-fi moments you would have seen in a long time. But, that doesn't mean, it's only about space, it's all about the emotions of a human. the bond shared by two astronauts talking on their radios. Alfonso's brilliance in capturing the emotions in their voices & on face creates an impact. The movie is not high about the acting honours, but Bullock & Clooney, nailed their performances..!! "Gravity" is a movie that when you see, it reminds you what the magic of the movies is all about. It makes you fall in love with cinema again..!!

My Rating - *****

3. Captain Phillips

As it is a story of Phillip's ordeal, it is also battle between the fully equipped NAVY seals & four skinny Somali pirates with guns. The situation makes you feel bad for the Somali pirates. Director, Paul Greengrass has nailed it once again after making United 93 in air this time, he takes the route of Water. He has a habit of keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats with real drama captured in real time. With this one he has another winner up his sleeves. The movie is based on a true story when "Captain Phillips" was captured by Somali pirates in 2009. The emotion was needed to be there & it was all there. "Tom Hanks", it's just so so difficult to say about a man like him, he has done it all, won Oscars, makes us smile everything. The last scene, where he is crying & shocked after the events that has happened to & around him, was a much needed one as it adds a human perspective to the events that has happened which has left him traumatized. This One Is Not To Be Missded..!! For its story, emotions & TOM HANKS..!! & Oh yeah, in the last scene, please take some tissues with you, because you will cry for sure..!! I did..!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED..!!

My Rating - ****&1/2

4. The Place Beyond The Pines

Well, I really didn't know about this movie at all. A friend of mine said that you should see this. So, i downloaded it. And, what i see is then a total superb journey of crime & drama, i've seen in recent times. The cast included all the actors who are superbly talented & have proved their mantle in Hollywood, Ryan Gosling as "Luke Glanton", Bradley Cooper as "Avery Cross" & Eva Mendes as "Romina". The movie is considered to be the one of the most awesomest movies of 2013 so far by every corner of this world. And, yes, it is the most promising movie of this year, with people having no expectations, what they got was like a "treasure" for them.

My Rating - ****

5. Prisoners

The movie is directed by Dennis Villeneuve & seriously i would like to meet him & say "what a superb director you are". The story of the movie is really deep & he needed to find the way to make it look comprehensive on the screen & he has done full justice to it. Everything, the emotion that was need by parents, the detective, everyone was bang on target. The misery, the parents feel, you become a part of it. Screenplay is just phenomenal. Hugh Jackman, playing a father, is one of the best roles he has done so far, strong, emotional, drooling sometime, in the scenes where he done everything that can be done to Alex, he looks vicious but miserable & mind you, when he cries, you'll cry for sure, too. I felt that. Jake Gyllenhaal as Detective Loki, does everything he can do, he is strong, ready to do anything. I think, its one of those movies, where you cannot tell, which lead actor was the best as both were good. As a whole, "Prisoners" is the movie that you would want to see for its content, acting & emotions. you would not get better dramatic situations which looks real on screen. I don't any doubt that, it is the best mvoie i've seen this year. It got what was expected from me, A standing ovation, from me.

My Rating - ****

6. RUSH

You will witness the real lives of the F1 drivers, on & off track. The story-telling of this movie gets to the depth to the characters, which leave you emotionally & mentally glued to them. You will feel their fears & vulnerabilty. The most awesomest thing in this movie is it's cinematography, which takes the movie to an awesome new-level, be it scene where you see wheel to wheel, racing in rain & even the car crashes, they just look WOW..!! The persformances of bothe main lead, is just like, if you haven't seen them in real life, you'll say, that they are the real Hunt & Lauda. The movie "RUSH" starts from the pole position, maintains the momentum & make to the chequered flag with a podium finish. Lond after, the movie is over, you don't think about death, rivalry. You just think about 2 champions, who didn't race for a living but, they lived because they loved the racing. The most thrilling ride, i've ever seen..!!

My Rating - ****&1/2

7. Oblivion

Some would challenge this choice of mine, but, according to me this movie was twice better than Iron Man 3. The film revolves around the lives of Jack Harper played by Tom Cruise & Victoria Olsen played by Andrea Riseborough as both overlook drones & all the machines, on the earth in the year 2077. The earth has been destroyed, what remains is in-habitable, who are still fighting with some Scavengers who are still on the earth & making the things worse. But, Jack & Victoria tend to believe that they are the only 2 present on earth but gets shocked when Jack sees that there are more than 500 also present who dress as scavengers & tend to gather things which they need. The journey of Jack, starts from here, to know the truth. The film gathered interests from the audiences with its superb visuals & effects, it was absolutely a visual treat watch this movie by all aspects. Superb Acting by all the cast members, Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko & Morgan Freeman. With Awesome Twists waiting for you in the 2nd half of the movie, You're in for treat.

8. Man Of Steel

With superb & mind-blowing effects. The best action scenes i've ever seen..Great Fighting Scenes in mid-air with punches over & over again.. Best Fight Scenes i've seen after such a long time. Awesome performances. Henry Cavill as Superman. looks like a superman in real too with great acting, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, looks grear. Russell Crowe as Jor-El, is superb. Hans Zimmer, does it again with His backgroud scores.. Zack snyder, David Goyer & Chirstopher Nolan, The Deadly Trio, does a magical work in this movie.

My Rating - ***&1/2

9. The Conjuring

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Ed and Lorraine Warren who were American paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Their reports inspired the Amityville Horror. The Warrens come to the assistance of the Perron family (Ron Livingston & Lili Taylor), who are experiencing increasingly disturbing events in their farmhouse in Harrisville,Rhode Island in 1971. The movie has all the freaking that you would love to see, but not experience it in real & it gets more intense when you get ti know that it is a real story. Superb Acting, Story-line, Mind-blowing background score & the whole movie was outstanding & will spook your guts out. The film went on to take $41.5 million during its opening weekend, breaking The Purge's previous record as the biggest opening for an original R-rated horror film. While horror films usually drop at least 50 percent over their second weekend, The Conjuring only dropped 47 percent to $22.2 million.

My Rating - ****

10. Frozen

Frozen works on essentially every level. In traditionally every fairytale, everything is black & white, but in this everything is grey. When you see the movie, you'll not see Elda as a evil-queen, you will see her as a young girl who cannot control her powers. The "Animation" work in this is splendid, beautiful, mind-blowing, i can say every good word for this movie. Frozen is definitely made for kids, which comes with good strong messages & they have their effects on the minds of the kids. But, the adults & young children will equally enjoy the movie as the kids will. This is not typical good vs evil movie, but it reflects the real complications of life. To last year's "Brave", both the movies are based on girl power, but, "Frozen" is much much more enjoyable than Brave. The humour is superb & is genuine & you will laugh to you extent & it is mostly provided by the character you'll love the most, i.e., "Snowman", who is waiting for the summer, but, doesn't know the consequences he have to bear. This is by all means a great animated movie. By far, a flawless animated movie after "The Lion King", you'll feel this when you will see "Frozen". Now, I don't know, what a perfect movie is, as it's like difficult to please everyone, but "Frozen" is really close to be called "Perfect"..!!

Movie Review - "Frozen" - A Visually Flawless Animated Movie

Last year, "Brave" won the Oscar for the Best Animated Movie Of 2012, that was Disney & Pixar's production. But, this year they have come back with a stronger outcome, i.e., "Frozen". The movie is a throwback to the Disney's classic adventures from pre-PIXAR times, but the real thing is it still looks modern as the film & it's writing is so fresh. The movie is based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, "The Snow Queen".

The movie tells the story of 2 princess sisters Elsa voiced by "Idina Menzel" & Anna voiced by "Kristen Bell" who lives in a gorgeous kingdom of Arendelle. Born with the power to turn everything into ice, Elsa is kept way from her sister & she never goes out as this secret should be hidden from the world. But, when they grow up & both of them waiting for the big announcement, "Elda" is named & crowned the queen of Arendelle, she is happy, but moreover her sister is the most happiest person after hearing this & everybody forgots what power Elda possess, even, Elda forgets it & by Mistake, that's the important part, by MISTAKE, she freezes her village & she feels wicked & low, resulting in to banish herself from the village & leading an isolated life away from everybody. Her sister, Anna, feels determined to find her sister "Elda", she courageously sets off to the mountains & she is not alone. Yess, she has company with her, a rugged local guy voiced by "Jonathan Groff" & a goofy & awesome Snowman, voiced by "Josh Gad". But, Anna only has one thing on her mind, which is "Her Sister's Safety".

GO WATCH IT..!! GET, FROZEN, IN THIS FUN RIDE..!!  :D

Cast - Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad

Director - Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee

My Rating- ****

Movie Review - "Singh Saab The Great" - Sunny's "Dhai Kilo Ka Hath" Returns Strong..!!

Anil Sharma, the director & Sunny Deol have delivered three hit films together so far - "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, "The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy" & "Apne". And we can surely say that they are back with a bang & not just a bang, but with a "Dhai Kilo Ka Punch" with new venture "Singh Saab The Great". The movie revolves around an honest collector "Saranjit Singh Talwar" played by "Sunny Deol" who believes in doing the right thing & does so, till the time he is transferred to Bhadori, a small town in Uttar Pradesh. As he is transferred there, Bhoodev Singh played by "Prakash Raj" comes into the picture. While Saranjit belives in the power of the truth, Bhoodev thinks the ultimate power is money.

(Sunny Deol in a scene from "Singh Saab The Great")

Like any other politician, that are shown in movies or in real life too, Bhoodev is corrupt, powerful & always does the wrong thing. But, Saranjit always comes in the way to make things difficult for him. In a fight between these two strong forces, it is "Saranjit's" wife, "Urvashi Rautela" who bears the brunt of the enemy & dies. but, things turn even worse when Saranjit is accused of bribery & is jailed. Seven years later Saranjit, with a help of his cop friend manages to get out of jail and changes his identity. Now he is known as Singh Saab, whose motto is not ‘badla’, but ‘badlav’. But does he manage to change society and most importantly, Bhoodev Singh?

The good in the movie is, definitely,
has to be Sunny Deol’s performance. Even though he is in his late 50s, Sunny still manages to do action sequences amazingly well. His dhai kilo ka haath yet again entertains us and how! He is one actor who actually makes action stunts look believable. Another highlight of the film is its dialogue. An angry Sunny mouthing dhansoo lines like ‘Bali hamesha bakre ki di jaati hai, sher ki nahi’ is a treat to watch. And though the story could have been more crisp, I enjoyed watching it coz there is different atmosphere when you enter a Sunny Deol film. It’s like watching a cricket match. Every time Mr Deol fights or says a dhamaakedar line, the audience goes crazy and claps and whistles. That’s what made my experience enjoyable. Besides Sunny, Prakash Raj has delivered a solid performance. In fact, he gives worthy takkar to the ultimate action hero. His scenes with Sunny Deol are to watch out for. They make a perfect hero-villain jodi. Amrita Rao as a journalist does well. Urvashi Rautela has nothing much to do in the film and after a point you forget why she is there at all…and then she is dead. Johnny Lever makes you laugh in places.

"Singh Saab the Great"
is a typical Sunny Deol film and if you are a fan of the actor, you wouldn’t mind watching it. If you want to watch a film with your family that isn’t a remake, is full of action and has plenty of drama, this one is perfect. but, what was really awesome to see, that it felt so nice to see so many elder people in the theatre to see this movie, which is really a rare sight & enjoying the movie. WATCH IT..!!
Cast - Sunny Deol, Urvashi Rautela, Prakash Raj, Johnny Lever

Director - Anil Sharma

Movie Review - "Insidious:Chapter 2" - A Worthy Awesome Sequel

In 2011, Director James Wan, gave us a movie to which we all said that "He is the new Horror Master", the film was "Insidious", where he tells the story of "Josh" & "Renai" played by "Patrick Wilson" & "Rose Byrne" who are experiencing supernatural things, because of their son. To, get back their son back from the coma & get him back from the spirit world, his father goes into the spirit world & brings him back, but what we see in the end completely made our minds blown as the real "Josh" doesn't come back to the real world, it's a monster who has come back with him, with Josh trapped in the spirit world. We have waited for 2 years, to know what will happen to Josh & his family & finally, the wait is over. "Insidious:Chapter 2" has released in India & it does not disappoints.

( Patrick Wilson (Josh) in a scene from "Insidious:Chapter 2")

The story starts with a flashback, where we see young "Josh" having a sort of interview with young "Ellis" (the psychic, who sends JOSH to the spirit world in the 1st movie) as he is experiencing some weird things around the house & then, we come back to the present, Renai is being interrogated by the police on the killing of Ellis, which we saw in the last scene of 1st movie. But, when they thought everything is going good, they again start experiencing weird supernatural things. The first "Insidious" often felt like an affectionate tribute to "The Shining", with a gifted child able to communicate with the undead, "Chapter 2" continues the homage by having Patrick Wilson go full "Jack Torrance" on us & turning to someone dangerous. That plus the appearance of some very unwanted guests, like a bride covered in white who gives a good thrashing to Renai in the living room.

James Wan & Leigh Whannell once again has made a ripping good ghost story here. Where so many sequels seems like mere remakes of their predecessors, with bigger budgets & less imagination, "Insidious:Chapter 2" feels like a genuine continuation of characters we enjoyed getting to know the first time. The most stand-out character in this movie is "Patrick Wilson", he looks superb in his role, confused, helpless & relentlessly dangerous. "Wan's intelligent filmmaking and command of unsettling atmospherics continue to impress, and Whannell's script is committed to pushing the mythology forward, deftly moving back and forth through time and even literally revisiting the first film to provide a new perspective on a key event. "Chapter 2" won't make much sense to anyone who hasn't seen "Insidious," but that's the point. Instead of a typical disposable sequel, Wan and Whannell have created two films that could easily be united as a single, satisfying, work."

GO WATCH, IT..!! YOU'LL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED..!! PATRICK WILSON IS SPECIAL IN THIS MOVIE..!!  :D

Cast - Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, Ty Simpsons, Steve Coulter, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson

Movie Review - "Ram-Leela" - A Stunning Masterpiece..!!

So, after movies like "Saawariya" & "Guzaarish" which didn't do as well as we expected, but, FYI, "Guzaarish" was an excellent movie. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is back, with his huge sets, ravishing atmosphere in "Ram-Leela" known as "Goliyon Ki Ras-Leela Ram-Leela", well that's a big name for a movie.

The film is an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet" set in Gujarat(India). The movies starts with a fighting scene, gun battle between the people who are really happy carrying the guns with them & the first scene you see, you think, we are in a cracker for a show. Fire arms, guns are easily available in the village, where Ram played by "Ranveer Singh" & Leela played by "Deepika Padukone" stay. They both belong 2 different clans, Rajadi & Sanada, which are living together but are at war, which have been going for the past 500 years.

(Deepika Padukone (Leela) & Ranveer Singh (Ram) in a scene from "Ram-Leela")

Soon after, Ram & Leela spot each other, a skirt chasing Ram finds his way to her bedroom, i think, that came to soon. You see a lot of love, lot of lust & then you feel, that they are not able to take off their hands off each other. The special & beautiful chemistry between the 2 actors is the main strength of this movie. Both the actors can start fire with their chemistry & can even spark the love point in your heart, too. The music has been given by Bhansali, himself has given the music of the movie & this is the reason, you see songs one after another from the initial stage, till the end. But, the thing is that Songs are not that bad, they are shot beautifully & you will be forced to like them. My favorites are "Tatad Tatad" & "Nagada". Deepika's dance performances in some songs are outstanding & breathtaking.

Ranveer Singh has everything going for him here. His entry on the bike, lying down, on the song Tatad Tatad is mind-blowing. For more info, He learned a new language for the movie, to enhance his performance for play "Ram" & it really paid off. In his fourth film, now he truly looks & has the presence of a star. There are many songs, all are color-soaked dance numbers. In the song, Nagada Sang Dhol, it's completely impossible & for real, its completely impossible to take off your eyes from Deepika Padukone, you just see her dancing like an angel & a dream with superb expressions. You just want to be right next to him, when she appears on the screen. Even, in those heavy costumes, she makes it looks like a walk in the park. But, one must not forget the movie works because of the strong performances from actors like Supriya Pathak, Richa Chaddha & Barkha Bisht.

Bhansali does a beautiful work & keeps you glued to the screen & keeps the plot together. The film has lots of moments that will stay with you, Ram & Leela's passionate attraction towards each other. The movie was hyped & hyped a lot & it surpasses all the hype. IT IS A MASTERPIECE..!!  :D

DON'T MISS THIS ONE..!!

Cast - Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Supriya Pathak, Richa Chaddha, Barkha Bisht

Movie Review - "Satya 2" - All Time Low For RGV..!!

Two things that or should i say 2 brands which truly define RGV are Satya & Company. With his new flick he tries to bring back the magic of both these brands with his movie flick "Satya 2". Did he stuck the right chord?

(Puneet Singh Ratn as Satya in "Satya 2")

The answer is "NO" & yes, it is a bitter truth. His new film "Satya 2", which for the record has nothing to do with its first movie, is a story of a man who wants to reinvent the company, i.e., "Underworld". RGV has named this movie "Satya 2" because, "Satya" clicked to the audiences, once upon a time. It only borrows the title from Satya, the humongous hit of the director in 1998, that movie defined the gangster genre of movies in Bollywood. May be, it's his respect to that movie.

Like in the first movie, the hero essays the title role & come to Mumbai as an outsider. The debutant, Puneet Singh Ratn plays the character of the new "Satya". The script is nothing to be anticipated as a secret, because you have already garnered the story if you have seen the poster punchline. "Dawood has retired, Chota Raajan has become inactive & Abu Salem is in jail.". Satya, an outsider coming to Mumbai to revive & building a new Underworld. Well, this is the whole story & rest movie is about the tryst with "Ek Naye Underworld Ki Shuruaat"

Satya 2, is a bit of clumsy in the way it is been edited & very-very loud with its background score can tear your ears apart, well nothing gets you engaged to the movie as nothing is new in the script. The thing is, too many gangster movie has come & gone between 1998 to 2013. This genre has seen everything, it has become really narrow now, the bhais, the violence & everything does not create the fresh curiosity as "Satya" did in its time. You cannot see anything new in this movie. It just fails in it's script & the way its is being put for you on the big screen.

The newcomer Puneet Singh, impresses & communicates with his eyes but doesn't get in it's depth. The supporting cast, completely fails to impress. The main things that this movie sorely miss are "Bhiku Mhatre" & "Kallu Mama".

The movie tells you the awful truth if you are a Satya fan, like me. It marks the lowest phase of a film maker who we believed, would reinvent the gangster genre & the mainstream bollywood for good.

SKIP THIS ONE..!!

Movie Review - "Captain Phillips" - A Terrific Journey To Cry For..!!

With Hollywood releasing their most of the movies earlier in India than the release in USA or on the same date as USA, Hollywood has grown in India. This year with movies like Oblivion, Man Of Steel, Prisoners, Gravity, Hollywood has made a strong market in India & it's here to stay. The latest addition to the misery of  Bollywood is, Hollywood's "Captain Phillips". I watched this movie day before yesterday, to be honest, i didn't even see it's trailer, i went on google to see abut "Gravity" & there i saw its suggestion, i opened, then i saw great ratings about it. So, i thought why not go & see this. So, i went to see it & came out crying, now here's the important part, i was crying not that the movie was dull, i was crying because the movie was just too splendid.

( Tom Hanks as "Captain Phillips"(middle) & Barkhad Abdi as "Abduwali Muse" (left)

The first thing that encourages you to see this movie is one man,  "Tom Hanks" in the main lead & then, the bottom line "Based On A True Story", what better can we get. So, the film starts with "Captain Richard Phillips" played by Tom Hanks, a merchant mariner going for a expedition with his newly built team to Mombasa to deliever food & water & all the important supplies to African nations. In between, he learns that "Gulf Of Aden" is treated as Pirate's Paradise as Somalia is very close to it, so Somalian Pirates hijack the big ships & take ransom for it. After learning this, he orders security drills in the vessel to check that everyone is doing his duty, but as they start their drill Captain sees that, 2 skiffs of Somalian pirates coming their way but with his smartness, he outruns them. "Abduwali Muse" played by Barkhad Abdi, is the leader of the pirates. They come again next morning, but this only 5 pirates in 1 boat. Captain & its team perform various skills to make them go away but, finally they get into the vessel. Captain, orders all the crew to lock them up in the engine room & don't come out. Captain & his 2 crew member are captured in the bridge by pirates & order them to give money & search for all crew members. Other crew members, capture the leader of the pirates, when he goes alone for searching for them. But, when they are about to leave, they skilfully capture "Captain" in the life-boat in which they escape with the Captain. US Navy, gets to know about this & start an operation to rescue Captain, before they reach Somalia. Now, i'll go far from this as it would spoil all your fun.

The film occasionally seems like a battle between good vs evil.

Tom Hanks & Captain Phillips is at its best in the first half, when they inter cut from one nail-biting situation to another. Hanks closing & nearly wordless scenes are the ones which you will see in the awards season. The last scene, where he is crying & shocked after the events that has happened to & around him, was a much needed one as it adds a human perspective to the events that has happened which has left him traumatized. With such a experienced actor, the newcomer Barkhad Abdi, makes himself heard in the movie with his big eyes & sunken cheeks, stained yellow teeth & a gun, he presents the Somali side of the story.

This One Is Not To Be Missded..!! For its story, emotions & TOM HANKS..!! & Oh yeah, in the last scene, please take some tissues with you, because you will cry for sure..!! I did..!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED..!!

Cast-  Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi, Catherine Keener

Director - Paul Greengrass

My Rating - **** & 1/2   (1/2 for the last scene)   ;)

Movie Review : "Gravity" : It pulls you into it..!! A Visually Stunning Masterpiece

With 2013, Hollywood dominating the number of hits it has produced in India, the miseries of "Bollywood" has not yet finished. As, Besharam, bombed at the box office, the new hollywood release "Gravity" has taken the world by storm. Getting a universal acclaim. So, i thought why not watch this movie which is getting 5 on 5 stars in reviews, 8.7 on IMDB, 98% on Rotten Tomatoes & 96% in Metacritic. I can assure you, to get these types of reviews in sites like that is really tough.

So, The movies starts with a view of Earth from the space, in year 2014 where mission specialist & bio-medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone played Sandra Bullock is on her first space shuttle mission which is named "STS-157", accompanied by a veteran astronaut Matthew Kowalski, who is the leader of this expedition. They are trying to fix something that is occuring a problem in Hubble Space Telescope, they get to know that they have to abort the mission as a result from a Russian missile attack on their own satellite has created a storm of debris, which has caused a chain reaction of destruction in the space. Well, this looks spooky as you're the only 2 in the space & the destruction from space is coming on you. The destruction kills all the shuttle crew inside. They are left stranded in the space. Only both of them, in "Space" going round & round.

(The astronaut in the left played by Sandra Bullock, in a scene from the movie "Gravity")

What follows after that is little predictable as they find ways to survive the storm, which is confirmed to hit back again in some time. But, what "Gravity" does best is, it explores the "survival" genre in infinite space, where the only thing that connect human is transmitted as voices on Radio from Earth, but the human rescue looks impossible. But, when you feel the tension building up on the screen, You're the first one to say, "Please, Somebody Help Them".. Then you think, what i was thinking, its Space, not a street that a guy walking around would save them.

The movie is released only in 3-D, not in 2-D. The filming of the movie in 3-D is more than a gimmick. It has some of the most astonishing moments of 3-D you would even see.

GO WATCH IT, FEEL THIS EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY..!!

Cast - Sandra Bullock, George Clooney

Director - Alfonso Cuaron

My Rating - *****    (it deserves even more than that)

The Best Of Bollywood - #1 - "Andaz Apna Apna" - An Addictive Laugh Riot, Which You Cannot Miss..!!

From today onwards i'm gonna start a new series, that will feature all the marvel movies in Bollywood. Be it an old movie or a new one, the movies which are always in our hearts & will continue to do magic on us. Bollywood has produced many Comedy movies, be it black comedy, simple comedy & the one which is famous nowadays, Adult Comedies. But, when we as people for their favourite comedy movies, one movie which is always on the Number 1 position on everybody's list is "Andaz Apna Apna". Oh god, how can anyone not like this movie, But, do you know, that it was a major "Disaster" at the box office, at the time it was released. I say, WHAT THE F?? How can this movie be a flop? I sometimes think, people at that time didn't have that sense of humor, that today people have.

The movie revolves around Two young conmen, "Amar" played by Aamir Khan & "Prem" played by Salman Khan, now i know, those who are thinking such big stars in the movie still the movie was a disaster. Well, at that time, they were not famous, like they are now. They were two lean, young men, trying to find a place in Bollywood. So yes, the story revolves around these 2 youngmen, fighting it out to be the groom of a very rich girl, coming back to India. They dream of getting married to the rich girl named "Raveena Bajaj" played by Raveena Tandon, the daughter of "Ram Gopal Bajaj" played by Paresh Rawal. So, both of them escape from their houses & meet each other in a bus going to Ooty. Soon, they find out that they have a common goal. But, after various attempts, they couldn't do their tas well. But, Amar gets a way to get into their house, by acting like he has lost his memory, after Raveena hits him with a stick on his head as he kept on irritating her. then, we come to now that Ram Gopal Bajaj has a twin brother "Shyam Gopal Bajaj", who is known as "Teja". He makes a plan to kidnap Ram Gopal to get ample amount of money to give the money back to "Crime Master Gogo" played by Shakti Kapoor, is being showed nephew of Mogambo.Teja, wants to enjoy his life. He has his 2 men, "Robert" played by Viju Khote & "Bhalla" played by Shehzad Khan, to keep a check on the girls. Teja succeeds in kidnapping Ram Gopal. Both the boys go to search Ram. but Teja maes them believe that he is Ram & he gets into the house. The guys find out about the real identities of the girls "Raveena" is not the real heiress of Ram Gopal, but "Karishma" played by Karishma Kapoor is the real heiress of the house.Well, many of the people would see the movie after this, so i better not tell the end.

Film's scene & dialogues are so famous that, we use them everytime something happens in our lives. Well, i must tell some, like, when you hear the song "Papa Kehte Hain Bada Naam Karega" you tend to remember the scene where, Amar is cutting the ribbon to enter jail. When someone asks you, what the teacher questioned & how your viva went, you say "Arre bolna kya tha, unka 1-1 sawaal, humaare 2-2 jawaab, sawaal 1, jawaab 2, sawaal 1 jawaab 2, sawaal-jawaab, sawaal-jawaab, sawaal-jawaab, Chup lambiiiii hamoshi". Ohh, this scene will get you laugh toyour core. Whenever someone asks you to sit behind the two wheeler, you say "Chap kar, neeche utarr, Godi waale". When you see, Bread & Omlete, you only think of this dialogue "Bread Ka Badshah Aur Omlete Ka Raja, BAJAJ!! Humaara BAJAAJ..!!" You can quote any dialogue of this movie, once you've seen it. Whenever you do a mistake you say, "Galti Se Mistake, Hogaya..!!". After you've seen the movie, you cannot pic your favourite character, as all are just super-duper funny in their characters.

( Shakti Kapoor as "Crime Master Gogo" in the movie)

I just want to say, Guyss..!! Please go & watch this movie, you'll get your stomach paining by laughing uncontrolably  You hear the dialogues which you can never forget like, "Teja Main Hoon, Mark Idhar Hai", "Haath Ko Aaya, Moonh Na Laga", "Crime Master Gogo naam hai mera, Aaya hoon kucch toh lootke jaunga", "Yeh Firauti Ki Rakam Hai Ya Maiyyat Ka Chandaa Hai" & the evergreen dialogue "Balki Main Toh Kehta Hoon Ki Aap Purush Hi Nahi..!! Mahapurush Hain, Maharush". Ohh, i can just go on & on

GO WATCH THIS ONE..!! YOU'LL NOT LAUGH HARDER ANY OTHER DAY, WHEN YOU ARE SEEING THE MOVIE..!! THIS MOVIE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, NOT JUST HIGHLY, BUT DOUBLE HIGHLY..!! :D

Movie Review - "Besharam" - Be Besharam & Skip this One..!!

Well, with all the hype to this movie & is being released worldwide with 3600 screens, which is till date, the biggest release for any Hindi movie on a weekday. So, it's estimated that it's gonna break some records & has also got the 3rd Biggest Opening. But, is it actually worth the hype. To, which i say, a complete "NO!!"
The reason is, when you have such great actors in your movie, the plot should be something that people can understand, only acting wouldn't do.

( The cast of the movie "Besharam" in a scene (from left) Ranbir Kapoor, Pallavi Sharda, Rishi Kapoor & Neetu Kapoor)

The movie revolves around, Babli played by Ranbir Kapoor, who is a small-time car thief, but has some charm in him that everytime he gets through in any work he does. He keeps on repeating his mantra in his life "Na sammaan ka moh, na apmaan ka bhaye". Well, actually if you get deep into this, it's a very good line. But, the change happens when he sees Tara played by Pallavi Sharda, but after seeing both, you can immediately judge that they both are not each other's type. Babli tries to confront her, follow her & does everything to make her fall in love with him & then, we see usual Bollywood movie romance, holding hands & singing songs. But, suddenly, the twist comes when Babli is chased by a Inspector Chulbul Chautala played by Rishi Kapoor & his wife, head constable Bulbul Chautala played by Neetu Kapoor (who still can kill any young guy with her beauty). Now, Tara wants Babli to change & we get to know that, as who would want to marry a guy who is really a besharam.

The movie is directed by Abhinav Kashyap, i sometimes think, what his brother is doing & what he is doing?? Anyway, he again tries to make a perfect masala movie but this he falls flat on concrete floor. Dabbang, was a hit, because he had "Salman Khan" in it, not im taking his name for his acting skills, but why that thing worked because Salman Khan, has the ability to pull of the most nonsensical scenes & dialogues given to him. But, the second thing is his fans love it. But, it does not work this time.

Performances are not bad, they are good & very good. Ranbir in the character of Babli is really a Besharam, but still is charming & you'll feel that he is trying really hard to make it worth & he is just getting better & better. The dynamic duo, Rishi & Neetu Kapoor, looks charming & they do justice to thier roles. Pallavi Sharda, is also good in her role & plays, RK's love interest is really good, but her role is not that long. But, in the end, it looks like all the actors are wasted as the plot doesn't give them much to entertain.

Abhinav Kashyap's masala mantra doesn't live up to its expectations, as all it did the first time. His lead actor did his bit to save the movie, but the director didn't do his bit.. You can completely, SKIP THIS ONE..!!

Cast - Ranbir Kapoor, Pallavi Sharda, Neetu Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor

Movie Review - "Prisoners" - The Best We Can Get..!!

In 2013, Hollywood has grilled Bollywood really hard. Bollywood has only had 3 great movies this year so far, according to me, "The Lunchbox", "Madras Cafe" & "Special 26", whereas Hollywood has had movies which have made  bollywood, fighting a losing battle. Hollywood movies such as Oblivion, Man Of Steel, The Conjuring, Mud & many more, has made Bollywood movies look really small & this continues with the release of "Prisoners".
Well, anybody would want to see this movie by listening to the star cast. With names like Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, the expectations from a movie becomes higher & after seeing the movie i just can say 1 word.. "Wowwwwwwww"..!!

( Jake Gyllenhaal as Detective Loki & Hugh Jackman as Keller Dover)

The movie starts with Keller Dover played by Hugh Jackman, who is a very religious man & run a carpentery business & his happy family going to a Thanksgiving lunch, to their friend's house. Everything is going fine, everybody enjoying, children's playing & their daughters go out for a walk, Anna & Joy, with their  elder brother & sister, wheere Anna & Joy see an RV standing & they begin to play with it but they get back to their house. After some time, Anna & Joy, go to Anna's house to get her whistle, Dover & his friend ask about their daughters & they don't find them in the house & the kids never come back. All the people get tensed & shocking as everything was going so smooth & happily. They all start to suspect that the guy in the RV has abducted them. Police start searching for them, Detective Loki played by Jake Gyllenhaal, after some search they find that RV standing outside a gas station near the woods, with Alex played by Paul Dano, in the van. The detective gets him & gets him into custody & after having interrogation he finds out that, he cannot abduct the girls as Alex has an IQ of a 10 year old & when the detective tells Dover that he has to release him because of this thing, Dover reacts strongly, even saying the "F" word to the detective. After this, Dover takes the matter into his own hands by capturing Alex, from his house & capture him like a Prisoner & doing all the things necessary to get the truth out of it whereas his friend thinks that, this is wrong because we don't know that he is kidnapper or not but, Dover rejects & still make Alex captured in old house. Detective Loki, tries to find all the loose ends of this kidnapping & even goes to the house from where a young Billy was kidnapped 26 years ago, just as the same way, those girls were kidnapped. Now, i dont want to be a spoil sport & tell you everything & them, you would not be able to enjoy the movie.

Now comes, the main part, the acting, the 2 lead stars Hugh Jackman & Jake Gyllenhaal, are both one of the best actors hollywood has & they show their awesome acting skills in "Prisoners". I think, its one of those mvoies, where you cannot tell, which lead actor was the best as both were good. the emotions they present on the screen feels like, the same that we would feel, if we are in a bad situation. But, the surprise comes from Paul Dano who plays Alex, the portrayal of Alex as a guy who has an IQ of a 10 year old, he acts superbly & you feel the misery of that guy to your core.

As a whole, "Prisoners" is the movie that you would want to see for its content, acting & emotions. you would not get better dramatic situations which looks real on screen. I don't any doubt that, it is the best mvoie i've seen this year. It got what was expected from me, A standing ovation, from me. GO, WATCH IT..!! FEEL THE EMOTIONS..!!

Movie Review - "The Lunchbox" - Sweet, Cute, Loving & Sheer Awesomeness..!!

So, The buzz was that "The Lunchbox" would go to the Oscars & i felt "Wow" it would be amazing, but the, after 2-3 days, the news came that a Gujarati movie "The Good Road" is the official entry from India, to the Oscars. So, their was a crazy feeling in my head to see the movie "The Lunchbox" asap. Finally, yesterday i was one of the lucky ones to see the movie & by seeing the movie i thought, "Why the hell this movie did not make it to The Oscars?". Some people asked me, is it really that good?, to those i say, YES..!! It is one of the finest movies, i've seen in years. Bollywood hasn't done this before. It never narrated a love story between 2 people, where they both haven't met. But, still you feel over-whelming feeling of completeness of emotions throughout the movie. The film is directed by Riteish Batra, a debut director, who has done a marvellous work.

(Irrfan Khan & Nawazzuddin Siddiqui in a scene from "The Lunchbox")

The Lunchbox, has seen a remarkable tour of the global festival circuit, including, Cannes, where it was chosen as "Critics Choice Best Movie". Playing the cupid here is, Food, yess heard it right, Food, in a tale of   an aging man, who is on the brink of his retirement & a housewife dividing here time between cooking & a loveless marriage. The only film that comes to mind that is drawn on the subject Food, is Stanley Ka Dabba, which is why "The Lunchbox" is such a unique experience. The screenplay of the movie is splendid & revolves around the "Dabbawallah" culture of Mumbai, Delivery men, who transports the lunchboxe's from housewives to their husbands. The system shows that the chances of wrong delivery is one in milions.

Such error lands the lunchbox of Ila, played by Nimrat Kaur, prepared for her husband on the table of Saajan Fernadez, played by Irrfan Khan, a government official & a loner who is just few months away from retiring. Ila gets to know about this mix-up soon enough, but doesn't tell to her husband, who would not care anyway, whereas, Fernandez doesn't mind this mix-up, as the hotel from which he gets his lunchbox, cannot cook meals as delicious. This continues & the 2 strangers begin to mix-up with each other & they start an unusual relationship, which we haven't seen in Indian cinema,  through the notes they regularly exchange in the lunchbox. In time, the notes begin to get more intimate & soon they start get to know more about each other's life, their problems etc. Irrfan Khan is just perfect in rendering a character far more than his actual age. He doesn't let things happen fastly, he evolves Fernandez from a grumpy old man to someone who finds hope in love. Nimrat Kaur, is beautifull, looks fresh & is been captured quite interestingly. She is a big reason that movie remains adorable.

The narration of this movie is enriched by some more more chaacters, who are essential in the movie, Nawazzuddin Siddiqui, plays Aslam in the movie, who is a good natured guy, a trainer who will take his seat after his retirement, he plays a vital role in Fernandez's transformation. But, the most awesomest character is of "Uparwali Aunty ji", in whole movie you won't get to see her, she only talks to Ila through the windows, when she cooks. Bharti Achrekar's voice is a class voice act as auntyji.

Ritesh Batra's grasp of imagery belies the fact that he is a debutant, as Mumbai comes alive in its crowded locals, children playing cricket on the streets, rickshaws and ramshackle taxis. The imagining of the localities Fernandez and Ila reside in is quietly used to define their socio-cultural divide. Overall, the tone maintained never misses the point that The Lunchbox is essentially a love story. GO, DON'T MISS THIS ONE..!!

Movie Review - "RUSH" (2013) - A Thrilling Ride Worth Riding..!!

The movie's trailer i saw, just 1 week back & i thought Woww..!!, it's made on 1 of the sport that i love. The story revolves around the 2 of the sport's legendary icons, James Hunt & Nicki Lauda & their rivalry in 1976 season of Formula 1 Racing Championship. The rivalry between the 2, was as furious like we saw in modern times between "Michael Schumacher & Rubens Barrichello" in many seasons they have participated. Lauda & Hunt, were fiercely superb drivers. Well, the movie can be glamourise to the extent when it is made on a sport like "Formula 1", well we cannot blame the sport in it given the nature of the sport which has speed, adrenaline rush & super sonic roaring engines, hot pit girls & super sexy F1 cars. On the the other hand, it's more difficult to de-glamourise it & make it a heart throbbing & super duper awesome "Documentary".

( Chris Hemshworth as James Hunt (left)  & Daniel Bruhl as Nicki Lauda)

The director of the movie, Ron Howard doesn't get deep into both categories. I must, tell you to make a movie in F1 racing, to get that pace going like in the actual race we see is really difficult, as no one is a professional driver, driving at the speed 300 km/hr, the splendid execution of Ron Howard, gives this story a right balance to give a movie which is not just Awesome, but visually stunning, intense, edgy & heroically entertaining, same as Formula 1 Racing & its championship. While the sport has become much more safer than it wa sin 1970's, but one thing thas has remained constant int his super event is the rivalry between the Drivers. This was the case between, a super notorious, a casanova, a playboy like character "James Hunt" played by Chris Hemsworth & his superbly talented Australian driver & rival "Nicki Lauda" played by Daniel Bruhl. the movie mainly revolves about their identities, their ideologies & the battle between these 2 legends for the 1976 F1 season Championship & there spirit to win the championship which take them to the extreme.

Go guys, grab the ticket & see it.. It's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED..!!
